2007-08 Cavaliers
The Cavaliers made it to the finals last season, and if star player Lebron James has anything to do with it, will be a contender for ’07-08. They were able to keep Drew Gooden as well, who continues to be a solid rebounding leader. Larry Hughes has also come back from injury – and has no excuse not to step up his game this season. They also managed to sign Anderson Varajeo, who averages 6.7 rebounds in a game. Ticket buyers can continue to expect LeBron to run the show in ’07-08 – and the Cavs to continue into a deep playoff run.

Lebron James is ruining everything. Just ask anyone who has ever bought Cleveland Cavalier tickets before 2003. Times were that a guy could get his Cavs tickets as he walked up to Gund Arena. Before James arrived, there were so many spare tickets people used them as needed: bookmarks, spatulas, golf ball markers, kindling, business cards…what have you. Then Lebron showed up, and the same Cleveland Cavalier ticket that once was perfect for on-the-go flossing suddenly developed some value. Yes, there’s trouble in this city by the lake, and it’s all Lebron’s fault.
If the only way for James to pay back the good people of Cleveland is bring them an NBA Championship, he is well on his way. The Cavaliers are on the fast-track to the top of the NBA. Rising stars Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden have merged with Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Eric Snow to create a mix of young and old that compliments the talents of the young All-Star. James looks to begin his restitution by turning those scarce tickets into NBA Playoff tickets this year.
Ah…The good old days. Nate Thurmond and Austin Carr, and Bingo Smith…Mark Price, Larry Lance, and Brad Daugherty. What other franchise in the NBA can lay claim to such an array of big names? What other franchise would want to? But the thing is Cleveland won with these teams. Thurmond, Carr and Smith took the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference finals in 1975, and Cleveland was a perennial playoff team in the 1970s.
